Hello again!

I wanted to let you all know that coming within the next 7 next will be the update to many parts of the website I have talked about for a while. So, do not be alarmed if things look different, it is still Infinitum!

I wanted to let you know of the few things that will be removed to make way for new additions. The two main things being removed will be all the old albums of photos, with the exception of a few. Applications will also be deleted to make way for the new application and new potential applicants come 2.0 .

Finally: For all those who are ready to return to Eorzea with us…I want to know who you are! I know as of right now we have 6 people returning with 2-3 new guys I have joining us. If you are planning on joining us, let me know at some point so I can be looking for you and get the new server info to you as it comes to us all!

I hope to see all of you guys in the coming beta phases, and hope you are enjoying the time off!

Best wishes!

Hey all, been extremely busy with work.

That being said however, I'm not sure that I'll be returning to Eorzea once 2.0 launches. The alpha while very well polished/streamlined has changed the game into something I don't enjoy. It was one of the biggest forum posts/debates between all the alpha testers. Unfortunately, Yoshi-P effectively told everyone 'tough shit' in regards to the big change. I'm waiting for closed beta to see if they even remotely changed it, however if what the issue was in alpha is still there I don't think I will be playing the game which is a pretty sad statement for me to make as I've loved the FF series and MMOs for so long.

I did try to restart my FFXI account, only to find out it was hacked and emptied of all items. SE did an investigation and told me nothing happened to my account, yet said there was activity on it 2 years ago when I wasn't even playing. They're not scoring too many points in my book at the moment.

Anyhow, going to continue working like usual, keep up tabs on articles when I can and evaluate the beta. If its not up to snuff, then I'll thank you guys for the time in game and wish ya'll the best.

Details! What was the main gripe in alpha?

Not really sure how much the NDA is still applicable ATM, but brief details. There is now a global cool down (GCD) on pretty much every single skill. And its rather lengthy. Auto-attack is pretty much useless now and instead your character at even level 1 will begin using extremely flashy spammy WS skills as their main skills. It plays like button mashing WoW now, only the GCD is a helluva lot longer than even WoW's. It makes the entire game feel like 'every other MMO' out there in terms of combat. There's no distinguishing factor except for the absolutely gorgeous environments and the name 'Final Fantasy XIV' being on the loading screen. Unfortunately, its also the same reason all those other MMOs out there end up dying or going Free to Play in less than a year (even less than 6 months for some now). There's nothing that makes it different in that regards now.

Every melee starts out with 1000 TP no matter what and it whittles itself down as you use skills. It ONLY regenerates over time, auto attacks give you NO TP. So its not about being skillful and having proper stats, its about having a bot program to hit the key every X seconds to get the skill out there.

Basically for me the Alpha completely obliterated combat for the game. Yes, it was only to level 20, but the problem is that the game SHOULD be fun from level 1 to 50. Yoshi-P's answer was along the lines of 'We wanted it to be faster and flashy, but you will get things to reduce the GCD at 50". In other words you'll have to suffer through that miserable GCD (as it stood in Alpha) until much higher levels. Its nothing about earning the really nice skills as you level, its just about learning to have patience.

Other than the combat though. I had my breath taken away. The engine renders beautifully and fast. The crafting system overhaul so far (We were only able to level two crafts) is just awesome. I mean frigging hands down awesome compared to what it was. I'm not a huge fan that they left the Aetheryte system and Anima, but it has been at least improved so its not as clunky. The zones while big do seem to keep doing the crap from before where you'll be in a level 10-20 mob area and if you go up this small ramp suddenly you're in level 40 mob area. Hopefully they work on that some more, its definitely better than level 90s being next to level 5s, but still.

The biggest problem is the combat and it was honestly 50/50 it seemed in the forums. All these people new to FFXIV were for it saying it felt like a modern MMO and said how antiquated and useless old MMO systems like FFXI were (never mind they were fun and had great re-play value for almost a decade). The issue was the response from Yoshi and the devs made it seem like the only thing they might consider is reducing the GCD. The issue itself is that first all skills are on the GCD, secondly they're way too flashy for low levels. I just don't think a level 5 should be doing what used to be a endgame level animation, but maybe I'm in the minority. And lastly, the way you move around and fight and do skills now just feels like WoW, SWTOR, etc. Not even a dodge/evade system like Tera or GW2. They took the big part of what most had and didn't even make it their own. That's my biggest gripe.

Sadly, I figured that. They have to appeal to the masses, and we (those of us who played FFXI and enjoyed that combat and endgame) are quickly dwindling in numbers. It is all about how to make the most money, keep the majority happy, and entertain the *dun dun dun!* casuals.

If you decide to not come back, then I wish the best in life, and it was fun having you around for the last 2~ months or so!

ya i completely agree, i was playing the alpha too and wasn't impressed..
there was nothing much wrong with FFXIV why did they need to turn it into WoW?! if i wanted to play a WoW system i'd play WoW cause they been doing it for longer!
I've applied to the beta test too and hopefully i get in so i can see what its like..
yes i agree the moves are too flashy too early..i remember in FFXI and FFXIV looking at a capped level guy with awesome armor do some badass WS and was like "OMG i wanna be like that guy" and it seems like that nostalgia is gone in this version of FFXIV…I got that nostalgia back in FFXIV when i was with u guys but its dying..fast..
I really want to play with u guys again for sure I just hope ARR is worth it..
